INFO:
First Officer Aida of the TCA Atlantis has been transported from Unreal 2 to UT99 thanks to EL-DORADO Servers. She can be found in their ELD_Char_Pack01_v101.

She has dance moves and poses - now she also has a voice.

I've taken as many relevant voice clips as I could find from Unreal II : The Awakening. I also used the Aida voicepack for UT2K4 from Syrex as a guide to appropriate clips though I've used a number of sounds that Syrex did not and used some sounds for a different purpose as well.

This voicepack contains:

6 Acknowledgement sounds
1 Friendly Fire sound
5 (of 7) Order sounds
16 (of 17) Other sounds
12 Taunts

There are no Name sounds - for the simple reason that she doesn't say anything that comes even close to "Red Leader", "Blue Leader", etc.

Unreal II : The Awakening is a single player game in which Aida's role as First Officer largely involves communication with John Dalton (the Player's character). She commands the Atlantis in the absence of Dalton and provides briefings prior to missions and intel during a missions, as well as general support and encouragement. So she doesn't say much, if anything, that relates to UT99's Order sounds nor a great deal that equates to the Other sounds. I have, then, been fairly creative in using those of her voice clips that convey something of the nature of those sounds. The text strings in the in-game Voice menu do indicate the precise Order or Other sound that is being conveyed by what she says.

Known Bug : The voice clip in slot 9 of Other sounds ("I'm in position") won't play, though the text appears in the talk area. This sound is hard coded to play the leader name sound as well and since there are no leader name sounds it won't play.

Some of the voice clips will sound a little different to the others - most are from face-to-face conversations with John on the Atlantis but others are from remote communication with him whilst he is engaged in the various missions - these sound just a little fuzzy but this certainly doesn't have much impact on their quality.

I have only tested this VP off-line (in DM and CTF games) and only used it myself as a Player so it hasn't been tested on bots though I see no reason why it shouldn't work OK.

I claim no great credit for this VP. The major credit goes to Legend Entertainment for the game from which I have taken the voice clips and to Jackie Underwood who made a great job of voicing the character. All I have done is to identify appropriate voice clips, convert them from Ogg to Wav (Mono, 44100Hz, Samplerate 16) using VLC (and where I have taken sounds from Syrex's VP, I've also run them through the conversion process in VLC) and create the VoicePack in UT469d's Editor.

Do with it what you will - if you want to export or repurpose the clips and make another version you can but remember to give your package a different name.

If you have any comments, complaints or compliments, you can contact me on UT99.org where I drop in most days.

Enjoy!!
